I received information from several reliable sources this afternoon that bluesman and social activist Willie King died earlier today at [correction: en route to] the Noxubee General Hospital in Macon, Mississippi after suffering a heart attack [at his home]. I regarded Willie as one of my closest friends and feel devastated by the loss of such a wonderful and unique soul.

Geez, I can’t believe he’s gone, he was still relatively young. This is so sad.

This news about Wilie King is so extremely sad. He was a prolific local performer and we all have enjoyed so many memorable Willie King performances. My favorite was at the 2008 Howlin’ Wolf Festival in West Point. The tables in the West Point Civic Center were set-up with half-gallon liquor bottles like at a wedding, and a bunch of very happy female Willie King fans were up on stage grooving with Wille. He really was a charismatic performer, and when he took the stage, he always transformed the atmosphere of any venue into one big happy party. Having Willie King on the roster always guaranteed a good time anywhere you went. He will truly be missed.
